Six months after the horrific mass shootings at the Pittsburgh Tree of Life synagogue, another anti-Semitic gunman consumed by hateful white supremacist ideology gunned down congregants at the Poway Chabad near San Diego, killing Lori Gilbert Kaye and injuring three others.
This is not our first, nor will it be the last, encounter with this evil. Christchurch, Jeffersontown, Pittsburgh, Quebec City, Charlottesville, Charleston, Oak Creek, and many others were acts inspired by violent white supremacist ideology. These crimes victimize entire communities where people no longer feel safe to practice their religion or families attend religious services at churches, synagogues, mosques, gurdwaras or attend communal events.
The Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council, convened by AJC and Islamic Society of North America, is calling on Congress to respond to the threats to our society posed by those subscribing to white supremacist ideologies. We ask you to urge Congress to make confronting this menacing violence a national priority.
