Urge the U.S. Secretary of State to fill the role of Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism

As your constituent, I urge you to sign on to a letter encouraging Secretary of State Pompeo to prioritize the appointment of the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism. This letter was initiated by leaders of the Bipartisan Taskforce for Combating Anti-Semitism—Representatives Eliot Engel, Chris Smith, Nita Lowey, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Ted Deutch, Marc Veasey, and Kay Granger.

As this initiative is for Taskforce members, if you haven’t already, I encourage you to join this important body in order to add your name to the letter. With 80 bipartisan members, the Taskforce works to spearhead initiatives aimed at addressing the alarming rise of anti-Semitism around the world. It aims to work with European officials and diplomatic contacts to craft policies protect Jewish communities, monitor anti-Semitic incidents, and educate against anti-Semitism.

As global anti-Semitism continues to accelerate, U.S. leadership—mainly through the State Department’s Special Envoy position—is critically important to encourage European and other governments to do more to protect vulnerable Jewish communities. However, the position remains unfilled—more than a year after it was vacated.

Protecting Jewish communities around the world is more vital today than at any time in recent memory. Filling the Special Envoy position will signal to world leaders that America remains committed to fighting bigotry and anti-Semitism. Signing this letter will have a real impact on both policy and perception at this critical time.
