Israel 102 is part two of a four-part series that will prepare you to stand up for Israel with knowledge and confidence. In classic AJC style, this course is structured as an open discussion and involves diverse perspectives. You’ll gain an understanding of Israel, the contrasting narratives about it, and how to spot the factual distortions insinuated by Israel’s critics. At the end of each session, an AJC expert will set out the practical application of what was discussed in class.
The series will be taught remotely. Dr. Steven Bayme, AJC Director of Contemporary Jewish Affairs, will teach the first three, and AJC’s CEO David Harris, the concluding session. In that final session, you will experience a “conversation in action” which will model real world applications.
Delving further into Israel’s story, as well as the narratives of its critics, Israel 102 will sharpen your understanding of Israel and Israel advocacy. You will gain insight into competing strains of thought about the Arab-Israeli conflict within Israeli society, Palestinian society, and in the larger Arab and Muslim world. Discussion will also focus on Israel’s struggle to gain its “place among the nations” including at the UN and other world bodies and on best approaches to Israel advocacy in a variety of settings.
